Vikings to run over Bucs

Washington Redskins v New York GiantsGetty Images

Week Seven was a very lucky week for yours truly.? With an unlucky 13 games on the schedule, I got 12 of them correct, with only a late comeback from the Titans blocking an unprecedented piece of perfection.

More importantly, MDS and I disagreed on three games.? Thanks to the Cowboys, Saints, and Colts, my two-game season-to-date lead has been extended to five games.

For the year, I?m now 67-37, and MDS is 62-42.

MDS will join Thursday?s PFT Live to discuss this week?s picks.? There will be no gloating.

At least not by him.

Buccaneers at Vikings

MDS?s take: After I was burned by picking the Bucs last week on the way to going 0-for-3 on games where I disagreed with Florio, I?m playing it safe this week. Tampa Bay still looks to me like a team that?s headed in the right direction, but right now the Vikings have too much for the Bucs on both sides of the ball and should win this one comfortably.

MDS?s pick: Vikings 27, Buccaneers 13.

Florio?s take:? The Vikings get a chance to show how different they are this year against one of the teams to whom the Vikings blew a big halftime lead last year.? This time, if the Vikings are up by 10 or more at the break, look for them to close it out with a defense that finally is good enough to hold leads.

Florio?s pick:? Vikings 21, Buccaneers 19.

Panthers at Bears

MDS?s take: Cam Newton is going to bounce back from this slump he?s in eventually. He?s too talented not to. But the Bears are the wrong team for a young quarterback to bounce back against. Chicago?s relentless pressure will force a few turnovers and lead to another loss for the Panthers.

MDS?s pick: Bears 20, Panthers 10.

Florio?s take:? Rattled by the ouster of G.M. Marty Hurney, racked by injuries, and reeling from the sad-sack demeanor of Cam Newton, the Panthers are poised to get plastered.

Florio?s pick:? Bears 31, Panthers 10.

Chargers at Browns

MDS?s take: The Chargers have had two weeks to lick their wounds after that disastrous Monday night meltdown against the Broncos. They?ll come in to Cleveland focused and motivated and win this one comfortably.

MDS?s pick: Chargers 31, Browns 17.

Florio?s take:? If Mike Holmgren?s current team can knock off the Chargers, the Chargers could be Mike Holmgren?s next team.? Though a house-cleaning could still be coming, the Chargers will likely do enough to reverse a bad two weeks of blown leads and stickum, allegedly.

Florio?s pick:? Chargers 24, Browns 17.

Seahawks at Lions

MDS?s take: Mistakes keep killing the Lions, whether it?s penalties, turnovers or special teams coverage breakdowns. If the Lions could get out of their own way they could go on a run down the stretch and still contend for a wild card berth, but that doesn?t look likely at this point. Seattle is the team that looks like a playoff contender, and the Seahawks will take another step in that direction with a win on the road.

MDS?s pick: Seahawks 17, Lions 14.

Florio?s take:? If this one were set for Seattle, it would be a no brainer.? In Detroit, the Seahawks have an opportunity to prove that they?re capable of beating better-than-bad teams in a place other than CenturyLink Field.

Florio?s pick:? Seahawks 17, Lions 16.

Jaguars at Packers

MDS?s take: In the biggest mismatch of the week, the Jaguars? offense will look even worse than usual without Maurice Jones-Drew, and Aaron Rodgers will have his third consecutive huge game.

MDS?s pick: Packers 34, Jaguars 3.

Florio?s take:? The Packers have never beaten the Jaguars at Lambeau Field.? Then again, these teams have played there only once.? The Jags will want to forget their second trip to town.

Florio?s pick:? Packers 45, Jaguars 21.

Dolphins at Jets

MDS?s take: I?m impressed that the Jets aren?t going down without a fight. When they lost Darrelle Revis and got blown out by the 49ers, I figured the Jets were finished, but they?ve played good football for the last three weeks, even if they have only one win to show for it in those three games. The Jets will beat the Dolphins in a low-scoring game and get back to .500.

MDS?s pick: Jets 13, Dolphins 10.

Florio?s take:? Despite the injuries and the ineffectiveness and the uncertainty, the Jets have improved over the past few weeks.? They?re good enough to complete the sweep of a Dolphins team that has improved even more discreetly.

Florio?s pick:? Jets 30, Dolphins 20.

Falcons at Eagles

MDS?s take: The Eagles know their backs are against the wall, and the Falcons have been scraping by with three straight close wins. This looks to me like the day when the Falcons? luck runs out, and the last unbeaten team in the league gets beaten.

MDS?s pick: Eagles 24, Falcons 21.

Florio?s take:? Andy Reid is 13-0 after the bye week.? Sometimes, there?s no need for elaboration.

Florio?s pick:? Eagles 24, Falcons 23.

Redskins at Steelers

MDS?s take: The Steelers took a big step toward the playoffs with last week?s win in Cincinnati, and I like them to keep it going against the Redskins. Look for Steelers tight end Heath Miller to have a big game against the Redskins? defense, just as Giants tight end Martellus Bennett, Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez have in the Redskins? last three games.

MDS?s pick: Steelers 28, Redskins 27.

Florio?s take:? The Steelers are 20-2-1 at Heinz Field against NFC teams.? But Heinz Field has never seen anything like RG3, who?ll run circles around a Polamalu-free Pittsburgh defense.

Florio?s pick:? Redskins 23, Steelers 20.

Patriots at Rams

MDS?s take: The Rams? secondary has been playing well and the Patriots? secondary has been leaving receivers wide open, and I?m tempted to pick the upset for that reason. But with Danny Amendola hurt I don?t think the Rams have the ammunition to take advantage of the Patriots? problems on defense, and I think New England?s running game can churn up yardage at Wembley Stadium and lead the Patriots to a low-scoring win.

MDS?s pick: Patriots 16, Rams 10.

Florio?s take:? The team whose name pays homage to the men who kicked the butts of the Brits like to kick butt in Britain.? Though it won?t be a blowout like it was three years ago against the Bucs, the Pats should be able to build a fourth-quarter lead.? And hold it.? For a change.

Florio?s pick:? Patriots 27, Rams 21.

Colts at Titans

MDS?s take: Titans running back Chris Johnson took advantage of a bad Bills defense last week, and he should be able to take advantage of a bad Colts defense this week. Johnson will go for about 150 yards and the Colts? offense won?t be able to keep up.

MDS?s pick: Titans 28, Colts 21.

Florio?s take:? The winner of this one won?t likely challenge the Texans for the division crown but would be very much alive for a wild-card berth.? The Titans continue their knack for playing in ? and winning ? exciting games.

Florio?s pick:? Titans 27, Colts 24.

Raiders at Chiefs

MDS?s take: I?m not a believer in Brady Quinn as the Chiefs? long-term answer at quarterback, but as a short-term fix who won?t turn the ball over as often as Matt Cassel, Quinn should be able to lead Kansas City to a home win over a bad team.

MDS?s pick: Chiefs 20, Raiders 16.

Florio?s take:? Oakland has won five straight times at Arrowhead Stadium.? With an extra week to prepare and everyone on the hot seat, if the Chiefs don?t beat the Raiders at home now, they possibly never will.

Florio?s pick:? Chiefs 24, Raiders 10.

Giants at Cowboys

MDS?s take: Completing a season sweep of the Giants would go a long way toward getting the Cowboys into playoff contention, but I don?t see it happening. The Cowboys? defense will miss linebacker Sean Lee, Giants quarterback Eli Manning will have a big day, and the Giants will improve to 4-0 all time at Cowboys Stadium.

MDS?s pick: Giants 31, Cowboys 20.

Florio?s take:? The Cowboys aren?t nearly as good as they were in Week One, when they beat the Giants in New Jersey.? The Giants are the same, but this time they won?t get complacent.

Florio?s pick:? Giants 35, Cowboys 27.

Saints at Broncos

MDS?s take: Two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks will be on the field in Denver, but Drew Brees has to play against a good Broncos secondary, while Peyton Manning gets to play against a terrible Saints secondary. Advantage Peyton.

MDS?s pick: Broncos 42, Saints 21.

Florio?s take:? When he was the head coach of the Panthers, John Fox held his own against Sean Payton?s Saints.? This time, Fox has a great quarterback ? and the Saints don?t have Payton.

Florio?s pick:? Broncos 38, Saints 28.

49ers at Cardinals

MDS?s take: The Cardinals? great start to the season may come to a screeching halt on Monday night.? A home loss to a division rival would be tough for Arizona to overcome, and a win at Arizona will be another step for the 49ers toward establishing themselves as the clear favorites to win the NFC West.

MDS?s pick: 49ers 20, Cardinals 13.

Florio?s take:? Once atop the NFC West, the Cardinals are close to completing their slide to the basement.? Blame it on the lack of a high-end quarterback and an offensive line to protect him.

Florio?s pick:? 49ers 24, Cardinals 13.

(AP) ? Rather than leave a 56-year-old uniform hanging in a closet at his Idaho home, Don Larsen decided it should be used for education.

He's auctioning off the Yankee pinstripes he wore in 1956 when he pitched the only perfect game in World Series history, and will use the proceeds to pay college tuition for his grandchildren, one in college and the other a high school freshman.

"I'm not getting any younger and I want to see them get an education before I leave," the 83-year-old Larsen said. "They'll be appreciative later, more so than now, I'm sure."

Similarly, Bob Knight is selling his NCAA championship rings and other mementos to fund education in his family. "I have two grandsons," the Hall of Fame basketball coach said, "and my wife has a niece and nephew, who would get good use out of this."

In fact, a slew of sports memorabilia is on the market, coincidentally or not, just ahead of possible tax increases that could eat up some of the proceeds.

Also up for auction in coming weeks are baseball star Ozzie Smith's Gold Gloves, Evander Holyfield's boxing championship belts and an original of the agreement Pete Rose signed when he was banned from baseball for life in 1989.

"Sounds like a bunch of guys with full expectations that the Bush tax cuts are going to expire by year's end and not be back for next year," said Steve Gill, associate professor of accounting at San Diego State's Lamden School of Accountancy.

And starting Jan. 1, there will be a new Medicare tax on income from investments for higher-earning people. The IRS hasn't issued rules yet, so money from the sale of collectibles may be subject to the new levy.

"The 3.8 percent Medicare tax would probably be the thing that immediately popped into my mind in terms of what folks may be thinking about," said David Boyle, Americas director of personal financial services for the accounting firm Ernst & Young.

Some athletes used to give away the shirts off their backs or leave them in the clubhouse at season's end. Not anymore.

"If I knew then what I know now, I would have saved all my uniforms," baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra said.

These days, polyester double-knit has replaced wool flannel uniforms, and the 10,000-plus outfits sent to the 30 big-league clubs by Majestic Athletic are highly desired by fans. But it is gear from decades ago that is more prized.

"It's just a more honest period of time. Things were clearer. Things were simpler," said Brandon Steiner, whose Steiner Sports Memorabilia is auctioning the Larsen jersey and Knight collection in an online sale that will end Dec. 5.

Retired athletes and auction houses took notice in May when a circa-1920 Babe Ruth jersey was sold by SCP Auctions for $4.4 million to Lelands.com, which had a buyer lined up.

"Now not everybody is going to have a $4.4 million piece of memorabilia, but they might have something that is worth between $25,000 and $250,000," said Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions, which is selling the Rose agreement. "So different deals are being cut with the auction houses to bring that particular memorabilia to market while the players perceive it to be a good time to do so."

Larsen threw his last big-league pitch in 1967? when the average major league salary was $19,000. That would cover only a small slice of the price of top memorabilia these days.

In the same auction as the Ruth jersey, a 1934 Ruth Yankees cap that was owned by pitcher David Wells sold for $537,278, about $507,000 more than Wells paid for it.

The baseball that rolled through the legs of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series sold in May for $418,250. Two years ago, the bat Kirk Gibson used for his game-winning home run for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first game of the 1988 World Series sold for $575,912.

Those were bargains compared with a rare 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card that sold for $2.35 million in 2007, then resold six months later for $2.8 million to Arizona Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick, who allowed baseball's Hall of Fame to display it.

"Sports people are nuts," Knight said. "Look at how much they would pay for Babe Ruth's cap or Honus Wagner's card. I guess these are people who want to own things, things that are the results of what someone else did in sports."

Wealthy sports junkies view a 1952 Mickey Mantle card the same way others look at their 401(k).

"While the stock market is up and down, and while real estate is up and down, the memorabilia market has really gained a lot of steam over the last couple years," said Goldin, whose Rose auction runs through Nov. 17.

Instead of being auctioned online, Holyfield's collection will be sold Nov. 30 at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif., which also sells rock 'n' roll and Hollywood memorabilia.

"People look at these items not just as fans. They look at them as an investment. It's a way to diversify their portfolio," owner Darren Julien said. "We're very popular in Asia and Russia, and that's where a lot of the money is coming from. Items that used to sell for $8,000 to $10,000 can bring $200,000 to $300,000 now."

Holyfield, like Larsen, said he didn't consider the tax implications of selling items now rather than after the first of the year.

"This is something new to me," the former heavyweight champion said.

But the auction houses say the tax issues come up in the planning.

"As players get older, they certainly don't know what's going to happen with an estate tax, and I guess they figure they'd rather have it sold now than after they're passed and lose an unknown percentage," Goldin said.

And it extends beyond the sports sales.

"We've had other people, not just athletes, but we've had other celebrity personalities talk to us about that because it is an issue," Julien said.

In Gill's calculation, tax changes next year could push the rate on proceeds from these sales from 28 percent to 33 percent. In addition to the Medicare tax and the possibility of higher tax brackets, there could be a limitation on itemized deductions for higher-income people.

"I might just hurry up and sell it right now," Gill said. "Anything you would be selling in the near term, hurry up and sell in December."

Moon formed from humongous Earth collision, new theories attempt to explain

The new research potentially plugs a big hole in the giant impact theory, long the leading explanation for the moon's formation.

By Mike Wall,?SPACE.com / October 18, 2012

This artist's conception of a planetary smashup whose debris was spotted by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope three years ago gives an impression of the carnage that would have been wrecked when a similar impact created Earth's Moon. A team at Washington University in St. Louis has uncovered evidence of this impact that scientists have been trying to find for more than 30 years.

NASA/JPL-Caltech

The moon did indeed coalesce out of tiny bits of pulverized planet blasted into space by a catastrophic collision 4.5 billion years ago, two new studies suggest.

The new research potentially plugs a big hole in the?giant impact theory, long the leading explanation for the moon's formation. Previous versions of the theory held that the moon formed primarily from pieces of a mysterious Mars-size body that slammed into a proto-Earth ? but that presented a problem, because scientists know that the moon and Earth are made of the same stuff.

The two studies both explain how Earth and?the moon?came to be geochemical twins. However, they offer differing versions of the enormous smashup that apparently created Earth's natural satellite, giving scientists plenty to chew on going forward.

A fast-spinning Earth

One of the studies ? by Matija Cuk of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute in Mountain View, Calif., and Sarah Stewart of Harvard ? suggests the answer lies in Earth's rotation rate. [Video: New Ideas About the Moon-Forming Impact]

If Earth's day had been just two to three hours long at the time of the impact, Cuk and Stewart calculate, the planet could well have thrown off enough material to?form the moon?(which is 1.2 percent as massive as Earth).

This rotational speed might sound incredible, and indeed it's close to the threshold beyond which the planet would begin to fly apart. But researchers say the early?solar system?was a "shooting gallery" marked by many large impacts, which could have spun planets up to enormous speeds.

Cuk and Stewart's study, which appears online today (Oct. 17) in the journal Science, also provides a mechanism by which Earth's rotation rate could have slowed over time.

After the collision, a gravitational interaction between Earth's orbit around the sun and the moon's orbit around Earth could have put the brakes on the planet's super-spin, eventually producing a 24-hour day, the scientists determined.

A bigger impactor

Cuk and Stewart's version of the cosmic smashup posits a roughly Mars-size impactor ? a body with 5 percent to 10 percent the mass of Earth. However, the other new study ? being published in the same issue of Science today ? envisions a collision between two planets in the same weight class.

"In this impact, the impactor and the target each contain about 50 percent of the [present] Earth's mass," Robin Canup, of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo., told SPACE.com via email.

"This type of impact has not been advocated for the Earth-moon before (although a similar type of collision has been invoked for the origin of the Pluto-Charon pair)," Canup added, referring to the largest moon of Pluto.

In her computer models, the symmetry of this collision caused the resulting moon-forming debris disk to be nearly identical in composition to the mantle of the newly enlarged Earth.

Canup's models further predict that such an impact would significantly increase Earth's rotational speed. But that may not be a big issue, since Cuk and Stewart's work explains how Earth's spin could have slowed over time.

A third study, published today in the journal Nature, determined that huge amounts of?water boiled away?during the moon's birth. The finding, made by examining moon rocks brought back to Earth by Apollo astronauts, further bolsters the broad outlines of the giant impact theory.

Though the gigantic smashup occurred 4.5 billion years ago, scientists may one day be able to piece together in detail how it all went down, Canup said.

"Models of terrestrial planet assembly should be able to evaluate the relative probability of, e.g., the collision I advocate vs. the one proposed by Cuk and Stewart," she said.

Used Yamaha Pianos For Your Musical Passion

The piano is a wonderful instrument to channel a person's musical creativity. For long have we used these instruments to produce many memorable pieces of musical art. As music and instruments have evolved pianos too have evolved from large grand pianos to smaller and compact upright pianos. Yamaha is one such company which has manufactured some of the best quality pianos for a long time. With a long and successful history these instruments have gained a legendary status among musicians. As more and more musicians are opting for electronic pianos these upright pianos have considerably dwindled in existence. As such, musicians who prefer to work on the old ones prefer used upright pianos and when it comes to the choice of products they prefer used Yamaha pianos.

Yamaha has a range of pianos to choose from. These pianos are considerably compact and easily affordable even by beginners. It is a good option though to buy used pianos for an economical price.

There is a reason Yamaha pianos are so popular. They have been known to produce an excellent sound and have equally excellent stability with their tuning. The piano keys are very responsive and smooth; and musicians have found it easier to move their fingers across the keys. The piano tone is considerably superior and the design of these materials have long been subject of great appreciation. Yamaha pianos are also very durable.

Pianos are often considered as lifetime investments. It is important to know the model and make of the piano before buying. Specifications and dimensions are available on the internet for verification. It is also useful to consult with people who own such equipment as this will give you a valuable advice and/or feedback. Some of the older upright pianos are from a high quality wood. It is necessary to make sure that these are in good condition before purchasing. Used upright pianos are generally low in price and take up very little space in a room.

The most important thing to check before buying a piano is the sound. Due to its construction and specifications many used Yamaha pianos sound different from one another and it is important to verify the reason for sale from its previous owners. If the main reason for sale is dislike of the sound it produces, then it is highly likely that you too may dislike it. Always keep your specific requirements in mind and make sure you check the used piano thoroughly before making the purchase.

Google Runs Out Of 8GB Nexus 7; Will 16GB Replace It?

Head on over to Google Play, and you?ll see the 16GB Nexus 7 selling for $249, just like normal. If you were looking for an 8GB model, however, you?ll notice Google has the tablet listed as out-of-stock, with the company offering interested customers the opportunity to leave their email addresses for updates when the 8GB Nexus 7 is available for sale once again. Will it really be coming back, though, or is this the first step towards replacing the 8GB with the 16GB, and introducing the 32GB model?

The 32GB Nexus 7 is one of the worst-kept secrets around, and after numerous rumors, leaks, and finally pictures of the tablet in the wild, its arrival is essentially confirmed. With a Google event coming up for next Monday, you can bet that the new Nexus 7 will be a part of the festivities.

What we didn?t know earlier was what the 32GB version would mean for existing models. Would it replace the 16GB model, replace the 8GB, or just be a new third option?

Some recent retail leaks have suggested that the 8GB model is on the way out, and only the 16GB and 32GB versions will be available in the future. If that?s indeed the case, the 8GB Nexus 7 may have already left the Play Store for good.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A chipper Jonathan Vilma gave New Orleans' struggling defense an emotional lift, while Drew Brees did the rest for the suddenly resurgent Saints.

Vilma played for the first time while appealing a season-long suspension for his role in the Saints' bounty program Sunday, finishing with one quarterback hit but no tackles in a 35-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"It's awesome to have him back," receiver Lance Moore said. "To go through the things that he's gone through individually, then to just kind of break through and get a chance to get out there, be with his teammates - he spoke to us last night, got us all fired up, and we had to come out here and play well."

While it's debatable how much Vilma's play impacted the defense, the Saints stopped two threats near the end zone in the second half, including the final drive of the game to preserve New Orleans' second straight win.

Brees, meanwhile, continued the stellar play the Saints (2-4) are counting on getting from him to turn their season around following an 0-4 start.

Brees extended his NFL record for consecutive games with at least one TD pass to 49, while leading long scoring drives on four straight possessions to turn a 14-point deficit into a 28-21 halftime lead.

Despite wasting two scoring opportunities - one when they four straight running plays failed from the Saints' 1 - Tampa Bay (2-4) still nearly found a way to get the game into overtime.

Josh Freeman marched the Bucs from their own 19 to the New Orleans 9 in the closing seconds. On the game's final play, Freeman rolled to his left before throwing to Mike Williams for an apparent tying touchdown.

But the receiver had been pushed out of the back of the end zone before coming back into the field of play. So, what appeared to be a possible tying catch was nullified for illegal touching.

Bucs coach Greg Schiano said he didn't see what happened on the play

"It really doesn't matter. If it's called, it's called. You live with it. There's nothing you can do about it," Schiano said. "So whether he did, didn't, we'll see it on tape. That's life."

Vilma was very business-like, answering questions while getting dressed in the New Orleans locker room. He said he wasn't sure how many snaps he played, but that he felt fine and believed he was in good enough condition to play an entire game.

The veteran linebacker said he had always believed he'd get an opportunity to play this season.

"Most people didn't, but it was a long, drawn-out process, and for good or bad, it ended up this way and I was able to be back on the field with my teammates. That was a great feeling," Vilma said.

"I talked to the team last night. I don't really want to get into it," Vilma added. "I think my talk, hopefully it worked since we won today."

Ronde Barber's first-quarter interception set up Freeman's 13-yard TD pass to Tiquan Underwood. Jackson had a 17-yard scoring reception and Doug Martin ran 36 yards for a touchdown for Tampa Bay.

The Saints (2-4) barely had the ball in the third quarter, but took advantage of Tampa Bay's inability to get into the end zone when Brees put together a 12-play, 95-yard march that Pierre Thomas finished with a 5-yard TD run that made it 35-21 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game.

Brees threw TD passes of 17 yards to Marques Colston, 9 yards to Darren Sproles, 48 yards to Joseph Morgan and 20 yards to David Thomas to overcome the New Orleans defense yielding 513 yards. He has thrown for three or more touchdowns in five of six games this season.

"We want to get on a streak here. You've got to win more than one before you're on a streak," Brees said. "So now we've got two, and we want to keep that going."

Freeman threw for a career-high 420 yards and three touchdowns for the Bucs (2-4), who scored on their first three possessions of the game to build a 21-7 lead. Dallas Clark's 3-yard scoring reception trimmed Tampa Bay's deficit to 35-28 with four minutes left, and Freeman completed two passes to Vincent Jackson to help the Bucs get into position to possibly force overtime.

Jackson had seven receptions for 216 yards, but failed to score on a 95-yard play in which safety Malcolm Jenkins ran him down to make the tackle at the Tampa Bay 1. LeGarrette Blount was stopped for no gain on three straight runs, then Freeman lost 4 yards on a quarterback keeper on fourth down.

Brees launched the Saints' final scoring drive from there. He also led TD drives of 80, 80, 79 and 72 on consecutive possessions in the opening half.

Vilma pressured Freeman on an incompletion that was nearly intercepted by Roman Harper, and got his hands on another pass that he tipped first with his right hand and then his left before it fell incomplete.

"Having him back just, emotionally, really made a difference in this game," interim Saints coach Aaron Kromer said. "We were trying to get him in in certain packages, and we had a couple of linebackers go down early in the game."

Brees said Vilma's presence made a difference.

"You could just feel how grateful he was (for) just the opportunity to get out there again, but also, just the intensity. He's just one of those guys, very vocal. He obviously knows guys very well, they know him, so his ability to say certain things at the right time and just provide a lift, whether it be just his productivity on the field or making a play, or something he would say, that presence was definitely felt this week," Brees said.

NOTES: Lance Moore had nine receptions for 121 yards for the Saints, which finished with 458 yards total offense. ... Tampa Bay's 513 yards total offense was a season-high. ... It was Kromer's last game as interim coach. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt returns from his suspension this week and will lead the Saints in Sean Payton's absence the rest of the season.

Brisbane Fitness & Health Expo Recap ? Crave

Oh my! Can you say HUGE day? I told you yesterday it was going to be busy, and it definitely was- even though I didn?t manage to get through everything on that list! I have SO much from the Brisbane Fitness & Health Expo that I want to discuss and share with you, so what I?m going to do is give you a run down and then show you a bazillion different pictures. In particular, Michelle Bridges was incredibly inspirational and I?ll probably break down a few points from her speech in multiple posts- because it was really that good.

I literally have a million different things buzzing through my head that I want to share with you, but I think for your sanity I?ll stick with just a run down of the expo. Okay, so you know I was predicting my kid in a candy shop type excitement and I was right. As soon as we got there I was looking every which way and the three hours totally flied by!

Right near the entrance was my current new yummy- SlimPasta. The man was super sweet and showed me their new Fettucine product (along with their wok-ready, angel hair and spaghetti).

He was also kind enough to give me a freebie of my favourite type, the wok-ready (flat noodle)- which reminds me?I forgot to tell you about that on Saturday! I had it on Friday night for dinner and it was by far their best product I?ve tried. Gimme gimme!

?

I also saw some other familiar faces- like my FAV Chobani yogurt!

I seriously cannot get enough of the Chobani brand and everyone who worked there was incredibly helpful and nice. I managed to also snag some recipe cards, a chobani magnet and a whole box of plain chobanis (my fav) to take home! They won?t last long- what with all their deliciousness, uses and versatility! It was pretty cool to see just about every person there walking around eating a bowl of Chobani yogurt!

I?m not bias though, not all my friends are food-related. I also saw a fav gym wear shop- Lorna Jane.

?

I was salivating as I looked through the beautiful items, along with the 20% off sign! I actually asked if my gift card could be used and was a bit put off when a quite rude lady obviously thought I wasn?t worth her time and gave me a blunt no without even acknowledging or looking at me. So that was a bit disappointing since I love the brand so much and now I?ve got a slightly sour taste in my mouth about it.

With the stuff I knew, there was also the stuff I wanted- badly (oh to have unlimited $$$). There was a Vitamix stand and I was standing in awe at its? awesomeness. One day, you?ll be mine!

Speaking of awe- this lady left me dumbstruck. She is absolutely incredible and I fell in love with her as she talked.

Don?t worry I?ll try to capture her amazing-ness in future posts (yes I was that loser who took notes) and share it all with you! I also was lucky enough to get a photo with her (which I look terrible in haha) and her autograph. She was so lovely as she introduced herself to each person, got their names, autographed whatever and took photos. She also liked to chat it seemed, and this caused the line to slow down at times- oh well, so worth it ;)

?

Other demonstrations and presentations were going on too. Like arm wrestling, strong man competitions, bench press comp, fitness models and Mr Australia. He has HUGE calves. I?m totally blanking when it comes to his name and I actually can?t find it anywhere! :S

?

There were also plenty of other stalls that interested me like shoe stalls, magazine stalls (I got an Oxygen & Clean Eating mag!), clothes stalls, and those with vitamins and supplements.

?

?

That last picture is from the MissFit Sportswear stall. They had rocking clothes- bold colours, cool styles, and were very reasonably priced for gym wear! I didn?t get anything but I?ll definitely check out their website soon!

Oh and look what I DID buy.

?

I can now get my foam roll on with my very own foam roller ;)

Well this is a ginormous post, and hopefully I?ve stimulated your eyes with all my (dodgy) photos. I am already excited about next year- I?ll be there for sure! Thanks for having me Brisbane Fitness & Health Expo!

iMore Editors' Choice for October 21, 2012

Every week, the editors at iMore carefully select some of our favorite, most useful, most extraordinary apps, accessories, gadgets, and websites. This week's selections include a zombie game, some awesome music, a simple, distraction free writing app, and an app for creating graphs and charts.

Zombie Toss - Simon Sage

I guess I just didn't get enough undead from The Walking Dead. Zombie Toss is a Fruit Ninja-style slicing game with a perverse twist. A demented chef is collecting zombie meat for his own culinary experimentations, and you're the one harvesting. Throughout gameplay, you earn keys to unlock new levels, cash to upgrade your butchering implements, and gold teeth to purchase premium new items. You have to be careful to not let too many airborne zombies hit the ground, or they'll gnaw through your armor and infect you.

While the gameplay itself lacks some of the smoothness of Fruit Ninja, the art style and premise are both enough to keep me interested, especially with Hallowe'en right around the corner.

Epilogue - Rene Ritchie

Man goes to conference halfway across the world. Man meets girl. Man falls in love. Man has to leave. Man has a very bad day. It's the kind of story and the kind of pain only music can truly express, and it's exactly what's expressed in Epilogue, the debut single/demo from Airplane Mode. Full disclosure, Airplane Mode is Dave Wiskus. I know Dave Wiskus. He's been on Iterate a few times and I've been on Unprofessional. Dave's a crackerjack -- now freelance -- designer. I like Dave.

I had no idea he could flipping perform, much less like this. I hope he won't mind me saying I'm proud of him, and more than a little inspired by his putting his music out there. And I hope he keeps doing it. We could all stand to put ourselves out there a little more, and risk doing things just a little farther beyond ourselves.

Epilogue is free. Read the story first.

Byword - Joseph Keller

Byword provides a simple, clean interface in which to write, and is my go-to writing app. Both the Mac and iOS versions of the app support syncing through both iCloud and Dropbox, and take advantage of iCloud folders. Both versions of Byword include support for both plain text and rich text, as well as fantastic Markdown support, including intelligent syntax highlighting and a Markdown preview. The iOS version keeps a toolbar above the keyboard that can display the word count of the current document, various punctuation shortcuts, or navigation and Markdown tools, such as inserting a link or image. There are limited options in Byword, with support for four fonts on the iOS version, but these limitations allow for distraction-free writing environment and get rid of anything that does not aid in just committing ideas to a document. The iOS version of the app is universal, has been updated for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5, and is currently on sale.

OmniGraphSketcher - Leanna Lofte

One of my duties as a math instructor is to write exams. For many classes, that involves charts and graphs that I insist must look great. The best solution I've found for non-equation graphs is OmniGraphSketcher by The Omni Group. OmniGraphSketcher makes creating graphs and charts super easy to create whether you have specific data or just trying to explain a concept. You can create lines and data points, draw curves, and shade in important areas as easily as though you were using a basic drawing program. When you're done, you can share it as a PDF or PNG to then use as you please.

I have found use for OmniGraphSketcher as a math instructor, but other people will also find it useful, particularly business people who need to present information in a graphical, easy to interpret way.

Your choice?

Now that we've chosen our favorites for the week, we want to hear yours! Did you pick up a killer app, accessory, or game this week? Let us know in the comments below!
