More than 2,000 walkers gathered at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis on Saturday to support breast cancer research and support.
It's organized by the American Cancer Society and is called Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The group raises hundred of thousands of dollars to support the cause, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reporter Mitch Pittman met two people at the walk who had encountered the disease, but with remarkably different outcomes. Lisa Bender found out she had breast cancer two years ago when she was pregnant with her daughter, Alice. Today she is cancer-free and enjoying life with her family, and credits the American Cancer Society for helping make that possible.
Dan Miller was also at the walk Saturday, but was without his wife Sally who passed away in July after a six year battle with breast cancer. He came out with his family to raise money for a cure and prevention efforts.
